A bit of Punk, Ska, Oi, HC In Guadalajara, Mexico

Oi you! I did write something about the punk scene in Romania, a small history and I did share some bands. In some of our old numbers we did received articles about punk, ska, oi, hc scene in Belarus, Paraguay, Brazil, Bulgary, Serbia, Italy. Now I want to write something about the punk, ska, oi, hc scene from Guadalajara, Mexico.

From the start I will have this disclaimer as I am not trying to write a history here, I am living in GDL for two years now and what I am gonna write are my personal words, I will share some bands that I saw them live, that I have the chance to talk a bit. I am asking people from GDL to put in the comments other bands from this area to get to know it better. As a first impression after moving from Constanta to GDL was like a Mecca for me, a lot of good bands and nice people I have meet, and must say the scene is going strong and let’s hope for the best, we will come back with more concerts. First band that maybe some of you will know is Acidez, they are a punk band like The Casualties, fast and angry that toured in Europe, US and you can check them on YouTube for more, I will not make a whole biography and reviews of the bands (you can do it yourself), like I said I am just gonna share the bands that I know personally, or I saw them live. To remain in the area of punk rock (in various forms from crust to punk rock) we have bands like: Disrejects, AltiBajos, Anti Tigger, Puerco, Suciedad de Sociedad, REO, Garigoles, Dias de Vicio.

I will move a bit to another cool band with various influences from punk to rocknroll: Hollywood Babilonia, also another great act of punk rock stoner is T-Wolf. If we are looking into punk rock with irish influences you can check Batallon De San Patricio. I will move to ska-punk and here are a lot of cool bands that I saw live and must say they are all awesome: La Mugrosa Ska, Artikulo 33, Minerva Ska Punk, Los Malavibra, No Tiene La Vaca, Oveja Negra, Los Gargas, The Orkesta Etilika with some ska punk and surf, and these are the ones that I saw, like I said there are more bands out there and the scene is growing. Another bands that I saw and they are really good are more into Oi with various influences : Himnos and 30-30 both of them working class, antifascist bands. If I move into hardcore, beatdown and all other influences are bands like: Thell Barrio , Ruinas, Beneath The Horror, Ace Kool, Omega, and if we are into the hardcore scene I must share Wasted Crew (a nice crew of cool people that are organizing hardcore shows among other cool stuff), also there are Disrejects with their Infeztado Studio and Records that are organizing punk, crust events with a lot of good bands. If we are talking about venues for sure there are more, but I have been only in 3 of them Foro Independencia (with their Anexo Independencia), C3 Stage, Harlem arte and musica and Palíndromo…so I really hope you guys learn a bit about the punk, ska, oi and hardcore scene in Guadalajara, as I said in the beginning this is not an article about the punk history in GDL and of course I did forgot many bands to mention, I just shared some info from my personal knowledge. Oh i just forgot to add about one of my favorites shops in GDL that is La Victory Store, if you want to check cd’s, vinyl, clothing and more in punk, ska, oi and hc.Cheers!

Love Equals Death and The Static Age split EP

Hey guys, we have been offline for some weeks but we are back with some nice news from Love Equals Death and The Static Age.
Love Equals Death are coming from California and they are on the list of Fat Wreck bands, however, their latest material was ‘Nightmerica’ back in 2006, so after all these years the band are back with the post punk band, The Static Age (we did write about them in some previous numbers and we did an interview). The bands together have been touring with: AFI, Tiger Army or Street Dogs.
So this is a split 7″ released by Say-10 Records in US and SBÄM (Europe). They were supposed to be on tour in US and Canada but due the pandemic was canceled.
“Flight Of The Banshee” the title of the split is coming from an experience that took place at an old Texas campground that the locals said was used for burial ground for victims of a Mexican drug cartel. So after the band camp, around 3AM, they start to hear and feel what was a Banshee spirit experience.
About The Static Age i did write about them before and about Andrew Paley. They are post punk in the way should be, the band has on a split “Recover,” and also a cover of The Chameleons “The Fan and the Bellows.”
All the songs are really personal and the sound is amazing. If you cannot change the world, try to change yourself and change the view. All the best! Stay safe.
Go check the bands here:
